  5. I have not been to Egypt, but I have seen (stolen) Egyptian obelisks in Paris, Rome, and Istanbul. Poor Egypt was always getting conquered and its treasures taken by some colonial power throughout history, and the obelisks all over Europe demonstrate this. They really are magnificent works, especially considering when they were made. It is understandable that conquerors wanted them.
